Dr. Hanna is a distinguished Canadian physician recognized for his leadership in emergency medicine, trauma care, medicolegal assessment, and health management. He is licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada. He completed his residency training in Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine at the University of Manitoba, followed by advanced postgraduate training across multiple clinical and medicolegal disciplines.
Dr. Hanna serves as a staff physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at William Osler Health System, where he is also the Trauma Lead Physician at Etobicoke General Hospital. In this role, he contributes to the Regional Trauma Team and the Regional Emergency Preparedness Committee, and he leads Code Orange mass‑casualty preparedness initiatives. His clinical practice includes the assessment and management of major trauma, multisystem injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and complex musculoskeletal conditions.
He also holds appointments in the Department of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine at Lakeridge Health. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Hanna is an Assistant Clinical Professor (Adjunct) in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University. He teaches and evaluates medical trainees from the University of Toronto and McMaster University and serves as an examiner for both the Medical Council of Canada and the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
Dr. Hanna has extensive postgraduate training in chronic pain medicine, including certification as a Diplomate of the Canadian Academy of Pain Management and advanced training through Harvard Medical School’s Postgraduate Association. He has completed interventional pain training at University Health Network and additional coursework through CAMH and the University of Toronto. He is also a facilitator with the University of Toronto Centre for the Study of Pain.
A nationally recognized medicolegal expert, Dr. Hanna holds certifications as a Certified Independent Medical Examiner (CIME), Certified Medicolegal Examiner (CMLE), and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). He has completed hands‑on training in impairment rating using the AMA Guides (4th and 6th editions) and has conducted several thousand independent medical evaluations for plaintiff and defence. He has been accepted as an expert witness in chronic pain, catastrophic impairment evaluation, and impairment rating, and he is a frequent speaker at national medicolegal conferences.
Dr. Hanna has served as a medical advisor to major Canadian and international corporations, including Hudson’s Bay, Unilever, WSIB, Purolator, FedEx, and others. He previously acted as a designated physician for the U.S. Consulate General in Toronto and provided medical evaluations for U.S. immigration authorities. He has held Medical Director roles at several assessment organizations, including Seiden Health Management, Dynamic Functional Solutions, and the Canadian Medical Assessment Centre, where he currently serves as President and Medical Director.
His academic contributions include publications on traumatic brain injury, concussion rehabilitation, and radiation regulation in diagnostic imaging. He has received multiple awards, including Best Presentation at the UHN Traumatic Brain Injury Conference and the Community Oncology Scholarship from Cancer Care Manitoba.
Dr. Hanna holds a Master of Health Management from McMaster University Master in Health Law (LL.M).He completed further training at Stanford University and emergency medicine fellowship at the Beth Deacon Center in Health Law. His professional memberships span leading Canadian and international medical, trauma, pain, and medicolegal organizations.
